Professionally
For nearly 15 years I have amassed
a resume comprised of diverse professional accounting experience having
worked as an Internal Auditor, Independent Auditor, Non-Profit
Accountant, Management Accountant, and Tax Accountant. This unique
body of work has helped me to understand the financial needs of Small
Business Owners and Individuals Taxpayers.
Educationally
I attended Florida A&M University and
received a B.S. degree in Accounting. After college, I moved to
Minneapolis to work for the now defunct 'Arthur Andersen' and after
leaving AA began working exclusively with small businesses and
Non-Profit Organizations. In 2002, I moved to Philadelphia to attend
graduate school and subsequently received two Master's Degrees from two
different schools: St. Joseph's University (MS in Financial Services)
and Villanova School of Law (Master's Degree in Taxation).
Organizationally
I am now or have been a member of various
professional and civic organizations; including, the AICPA, the
Minnesota Society of CPAs, the New York State Society of CPAs
(NYSSCPA), Progressive Baptist Church, the NAACP, the National Council
of Negro Women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Gamma Sigma Sigma
National Service Sorority, the National Association of Black
Accountants, the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce,
OutProfessionals, and the FAMU National Alumni Association.
Personally
Some of my interest and/or hobbies include
"Football"…watching it (my beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers) or playing it
with my women's league, traveling, dining out, attending Broadway plays
and musical concerts, exploring New York City's various communities,
learning new things, and doing crossword puzzles.
Professionally, educationally, organizationally and personally, I
believe that I bring a unique perspective to client service out of
which has birth a new type of firm, the "atypical firm" of K. M. Sykes,
CPA.
